Let’s start with my Epson Moviemate 85 HD review. I graduated with a degree in cinematography and I was always fascinated with how people watched movies back then, and that’s with projectors. Watching movies projected onto a big white screen just gives you a different vibe. For me, it takes me back to the early 1900s when the only way you could watch a movie was to go to the theaters which had huge white screens and projectors. Even today, millions of people go to movie theaters to watch a movie, despite the fact they have DVDs and Blu-ray players at home. It’s just different, and in a good way.

Movie Theater Tickets Are Expensive!

Recently a group of friends and I started a family movie night for underprivileged kids. Every Friday, they and their parents can come and watch a movie for free. Because nowadays, it can get pretty costly to go to the movie theaters with tickets reaching as much as $10 or more per person; that plus the cost of concessions can be quiet expensive. Especially for some families that have 4 or 5 or more members, which are the kind of families that we have show up every week at our movie night. It’s literally a packed house.

Why We Got This Projector

To make the experience more authentic and similar to that of a theater, our venue is all black with red seats. We purchased a 120 inch white screen for optimal viewing so that everyone can easily view the movie. This was a cheaper alternative rather than getting stands or elevated seating. We then got the Epson Moviemate 85 HD projector. We chose this projector for many reasons over other models. For one, the black exterior of the projector coordinated with our “theater”. And it also had this boxy look that kind of resonated with old school. Secondly, this projector is perfect for projecting images onto large screens without compromising clarity or quality. It has the ability to project images 12 times larger than a 40 inch wide screen TV while still being high definition. The images are bright, crisp and really clear. It’s like watching HDTV but on a much larger scale.

We ran movie night for about three months and got wide reviews. Everyone enjoyed Epson Moviemate 85 HD, but since summer was almost over and my friends and I had to start teaching again we sadly had to end it. But it’s definitely something we’re thinking of commencing during the holiday seasons and every summer thereafter. For now, when we’re not using the Epson projector to watch movies on our spare time, we also rent it out to events and other venues. Not only can you use Epson Moviemate 85 HD to watch movies, but it can play music from CDs or iPods, there’s also a plug in for karaoke microphones, and you can also display photos and videos from your digital camera or camcorder. My friend even hosted a Wii party using the white screen and the Epson projector; it was a hit.

I found the lastest model Epson Moviemate 85HD at a great price and ordered it. I have been using it for the past two weeks and I’m very pleased with the great picture quality. I project on to a 12′ screen and everyone enjoys it too.

Bought this to use for my son’s party. It worked great. Used it for karaoke, wii and a movie. The kids had a blast, but I think we had more fun watching them. The picture quality was really good,as was the sound. Would highly recommend this item.

A lot of people who have a home theater system usually opt for the high definition or LCD TVs. Flat screen are fine but they can be limiting in many ways. That’s why when we first decided to get a home theater system we knew right away that it would feature a projection screen and a home theater projector.

Unlike HD and LCD TVs, projectors last longer and can provide higher quality images; even if it is just projecting onto a regular white screen. There are screens that can also give the same effect of an HDTV if you prefer that kind of display. One of the best projectors available would have to be the Epson PowerLite 705 HD with 720p display. We received this last Christmas from a relative and it was solely meant to be used for my presentations at work. But coincidentally I’ve been promoted to a different department since then and no longer have to do presentations. I didn’t want the projector to just sit at my desk collecting dust so I took it home and we decided to create a home theater system around it. We bought the projection screen, a sound system and a new Blu-ray/DVD player.

Setup Was Easy!

The set up of the projector was straightforward and quick. You have the option of placing in an entertainment center or you can mount it on the ceiling. We went ahead and placed it on our console which perfectly stood behind the couch facing the screen. It was the perfect set up. The Epson PowerLite 705 projects images that are high definition with a 720p display. Even when projected unto a widescreen, the picture quality is still tops. It’s not only good for playing movies but also video games, pictures, slideshows, and even songs from my iPod. The HDMI video connection allows you to view images from a satellite TV or an HD cable receiver. I actually prefer watching on our white screen using the projector instead of our HDTV, which has now been moved to our bedroom.

Cheaper Than A HDTV

A projector like the PowerLite 705 will cost you around $700 or less depending on where you bought it. It’s cheaper than buying an HDTV, and that’s already if you include the screen. Fortunately ours was gifted, which we could easily say has been one of the best gifts we’ve ever received. Not only did I get a lot of use from it at work, but now my family and friends can also enjoy the benefits of the PowerLite 705. Most likely I will be hosting the Super Bowl parties this year and every year after, and for obvious reasons.

Brilliant color, very sharp picture, great contrast, VERY bright, versatile inputs, long bulb life, cheap bulb (relatively..approx $175.00)….make this 720p projector a winner in its price range, let me repeat, in its price range….and keep in mind the low total cost of ownership.

I’ve been very happy with this projector after about 2 months of regular use. It has the features I need. I would strongly recommend using an HDMI cable instead of an analog one if your source has an HDMI output.
