Let’s start with my Epson Moviemate 85 HD review. I graduated with a degree in cinematography and I was always fascinated with how people watched movies back then, and that’s with projectors. Watching movies projected onto a big white screen just gives you a different vibe. For me, it takes me back to the early 1900s when the only way you could watch a movie was to go to the theaters which had huge white screens and projectors. Even today, millions of people go to movie theaters to watch a movie, despite the fact they have DVDs and Blu-ray players at home. It’s just different, and in a good way.
Movie Theater Tickets Are Expensive!
Recently a group of friends and I started a family movie night for underprivileged kids. Every Friday, they and their parents can come and watch a movie for free. Because nowadays, it can get pretty costly to go to the movie theaters with tickets reaching as much as $10 or more per person; that plus the cost of concessions can be quiet expensive. Especially for some families that have 4 or 5 or more members, which are the kind of families that we have show up every week at our movie night. It’s literally a packed house.
Why We Got This Projector
To make the experience more authentic and similar to that of a theater, our venue is all black with red seats. We purchased a 120 inch white screen for optimal viewing so that everyone can easily view the movie. This was a cheaper alternative rather than getting stands or elevated seating. We then got the Epson Moviemate 85 HD projector. We chose this projector for many reasons over other models. For one, the black exterior of the projector coordinated with our “theater”. And it also had this boxy look that kind of resonated with old school. Secondly, this projector is perfect for projecting images onto large screens without compromising clarity or quality. It has the ability to project images 12 times larger than a 40 inch wide screen TV while still being high definition. The images are bright, crisp and really clear. It’s like watching HDTV but on a much larger scale.

We ran movie night for about three months and got wide reviews. Everyone enjoyed Epson Moviemate 85 HD, but since summer was almost over and my friends and I had to start teaching again we sadly had to end it. But it’s definitely something we’re thinking of commencing during the holiday seasons and every summer thereafter. For now, when we’re not using the Epson projector to watch movies on our spare time, we also rent it out to events and other venues. Not only can you use Epson Moviemate 85 HD to watch movies, but it can play music from CDs or iPods, there’s also a plug in for karaoke microphones, and you can also display photos and videos from your digital camera or camcorder. My friend even hosted a Wii party using the white screen and the Epson projector; it was a hit.
